Scriptural prayers

There is NOTHING more POWERFUL on the face of this earth than the Word of God being spoken by a Believer.  We have been given authority from God and His Son, Jesus to proclaim the Word of God in Praise and Prayer.  We are instructed to use God's Word to defeat the enemy and all forces that are aligned against us.

"There are many things that compete for our personal prayer and devotional time with God.  But the fact remains that prayer is essential to our spiritual life and growth" Barbara L. Potts, Praying with Authority and Power.  She continues to write regarding the Psalms, "The Psalms give us excellent models of prayer for intercession and for devotion. ... 'Praying the Psalms' is an effective way to pray prayers that will touch the heart of God.  Turning the pages through the book of Psalms, you can pick up on selected verses that express the thoughts of your heart as you read.  In this way, many Psalms can become personal expressions of your own supplications, such as:

Prayers in the midst of Trials:

·         'Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge.  I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.  I cry out to God Most High,  to God, who fulfills {His purpose} for me.  He sends from heaven and saves me, rebuking those who hotly pursue me... God sends His love and His faithfulness.'  Psalm 57:1-3

·         'Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer.  From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.  For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy.  I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings...  Psalm 61:1-4

·         'Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am in trouble; My eye wastes away with grief, Yes, my soul and my body!  I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind; I am like a broken vessel.  For I hear the slander of many; Fear is on every side; While they take counsel together against me, They scheme to take away my life.  But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.”  My times are in Your hand; Deliver me from the hand of my enemies, And from those who persecute me. Make Your face shine upon Your servant; Save me for Your mercies’ sake.  Do not let me be ashamed, O LORD, for I have called upon You... Oh, how great is Your goodness, Which You have laid up for those who fear You, Which You have prepared for those who trust in You In the presence of the sons of men!  Oh, love the LORD, all you His saints!  For the LORD preserves the faithful, And fully repays the proud person.  Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the LORD.'  Psalm 31:9, 12-17, 19, 23-24

·         Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; And attend to the voice of my supplications.  In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, For You will answer me.  Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name.  I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, And I will glorify Your name forevermore.  For great is Your mercy toward me, And You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.  Psalm 86:6-7, 11-13

·         'I am troubled, I am bowed down greatly... I am feeble and severely broken; I groan because of the turmoil of my heart.  Do not forsake me, O LORD; O my God, be not far from me!  Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation!'  Psalm 38:6, 8, 21-22

Prayers for Strength and Encouragement:

·         'Uphold my steps in Your paths, That my footsteps may not slip.  I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; Incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech.  Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You From those who rise up against them.  Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings.'  Psalm 17:5-8

·         'Whom have I in heaven but You?  And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.  My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.  But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, That I may declare all Your works.'  Psalm 73:25-26, 28

·         'My soul melts from heaviness; Strengthen me according to Your word.  Teach me, O LORD, the way of Your statutes, And I shall keep it to the end.  Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; Indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart.  Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, For I delight in it.  Incline my heart to Your testimonies, And not to covetousness.  Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, And revive me in Your way.'  Psalm 119:28, 33-37

Prayers of Repentance:

·         'Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies... Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin.  For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me.  Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.  Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.'  Psalm 51:1-3, 7, 10, 12

·         Show me Your ways, O LORD; Teach me Your paths.  Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation... For Your name’s sake, O LORD, Pardon my iniquity, for it is great.  Turn Yourself to me, and have mercy on me, For I am desolate and afflicted.  The troubles of my heart have enlarged; Bring me out of my distresses!  Look on my affliction and my pain, And forgive all my sins.  Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, For I wait for You.  Psalm 25:4-5, 11, 16-18, 21

·         'I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden.  I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” And You forgave the iniquity of my sin... Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.  Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit.'  Psalm 32:5, 1-2"

Four Prayers for Loved Ones and Self

Prayer for Spiritual Wisdom

Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the Heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.  And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

Ephesians 3:16-21

That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height — to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.  Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Philippians 1:9-11

And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Preeminence of Christ

Colossians 1:9-17

For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.  He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.  He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.  For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.  And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

Isaiah 64:7a says, "And there is no one who calls on Your name, Who stirs himself up to take hold of You..."  Dake's Annotated Reference Bible instructs us on How to Pray:  "Hebrews Chazaq, to fasten upon; seize; be strong; courageous; obstinate; to bind; restrain; conquer; catch; cleave to; be constant; continue; force; lay hold on; maintain; play the man; wax mighty; prevail; retain; be urgent; wax strong.  All these meanings can be understood in connection with prayer.  If one would stir himself up in this manner, refusing to be denied, and if he would appropriate every benefit of the promises and covenants of God which have been freely and abundantly given to men-all men-then such a person would experience answers to prayer for body, soul, and spirit-for both himself and others."

Nice Daily Prayer

Dear Lord, I thank You for this day, I thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning.  I'm blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God.

You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me.  Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you.  I ask now for Your forgiveness.

Please keep me safe from all danger and harm.  Help me to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude.

Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You.

Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things.  Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. And give me the best response when I'm pushed beyond my limits.  I know that when I can't pray, You listen to my heart.  Continue to use me to do Your will.  Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak...

Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others.

I pray for those that are lost and can't find their way.  I pray for those that are misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who don't know You intimately.  I pray for those that don't believe.  But I thank You that I believe that God changes people and God changes things.

I pray for all my sisters and brothers - for each and every family member in their households.  I pray for peace, love and joy in their homes; that all their needs are met.

I pray that every eye that reads this knows there is no problem, circumstance, or situation greater than God.

Every battle is in Your hands for You to fight. I pray that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that sees it in Jesus'  name.

Amen!
